When we were about to become ‘real’ parents – meaning that the baby was on her way – we really didn’t know what to expect. I mean, don’t get me wrong, we went to the baby classes and spoke to friends about what to expect and made sure that we got in as much 411 as we could … even still, we were totally clueless. I sure did have a cute baby bump and we were elated, but we were indeed CLUELESS.
When you know you’re about to become a parent, you try to do the best you can to learn as much as you can about the baby and about becoming parents yourself. What you don’t necessarily budget time or effort into is understanding the hiccups, the time commitment of certain things, just the sheer shift in life you’re about to expect actually happening. You can study all you want to, but until you’re really in the thick of things you don’t learn until you have the experience.
